Manchester United will entertain Rochdale at Old Trafford on Wednesday night hoping to bounce back from their dismal 2-0 away defeat against West Ham United last weekend. The Red Devils need to prioritise on winning one of the domestic cups this season, so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could name a strong side to clash heads with Brian Barry-Murphy’s men in midweek. The Mancunian giants could set-up with a 4-3-3 formation with Jesse Lingard expected to play as a makeshift striker up top for this Carabao Cup match at the Theatre of Dreams. Here is our 4-3-3 Manchester United predicted lineup vs Rochdale.
4-3-3 Manchester United Predicted Lineup Vs Rochdale
Defence
Sergio Romero will operate in goal for the Red Devils after he kept a clean sheet in his last outing against Astana in the past week. The centre-pair of Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe will look to put in a dominant shift at the heart of the Man United backline.
Diogo Dalot will likely get the nod to start at right-back while Marcos Rojo operates on the other side in the left-back position. Both full-backs would need to find a way to make an impact on the Rochdale half.
Midfield
The Man United midfield could be comprised of Paul Pogba, Fred and Andreas Pereira as the talented trio look to dominate possession and dictate play at the centre of the park. Pogba will return from his recent injury-setback after missing his team’s last three matches across all competitions.
The French midfielder will be expected to hit the ground running and help the Red Devils secure a passage through to the next round of the League Cup. Nemanja Matic might have to settle for a spot on Solskjaer’s bench and might get a chance to play a part in the game if required.
Attack
Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong will provide width for Solskjaer’s team out on the flanks while Jesse Lingard plays as a false-nine forward up top. Man United have currently got an injury-crisis in the striking department with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are all sidelined at the moment.
Thus, Solskjaer might have no choice but to play one of his senior attacking players in Lingard as a forward in the number 10 position.
