According to a recent report by L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Newcastle United were left frightened by Olympique Marseille’s asking price for Morgan Sanson. The same source has claimed that the Magpies would face stiff competition from Crystal Palace and Everton in pursuit of the Ligue 1 ace. However, L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) has stated that Marseille are demanding at least €25m for the French midfield ace which has frightened all three of his potential suitors.
Sanson’s Rise To The Top Of French Football
Sanson came through the youth ranks of FC Le Mans before going on to make a switch to Montpellier in the summer of 2013. The French playmaker made a name for himself at Stade de la Mosson after he scored 13 goals and grabbed 13 assists in 106 appearances for the French club across all competitions.
Marseille decided to take a chance on him at the start of 2017. Since joining the Ligue 1 giants, the 25-year-old has gone on to feature in 114 matches for them, registering 18 goals while providing 15 assists on all fronts.
Sanson has already notched up six appearances for Marseille this season and has got one assist to his name thus far. The Saint-Doulchard born talent has also represented France at various youth levels but is yet to earn his first international cap for his country.
What Are The French Playmaker’s Best Attributes?
Sanson is a moderately paced box to box midfielder who can make some clever runs into the opposition penalty box. He is also an accurate distributor and does not shy away from going long with his ball-distribution when a front player makes a well-timed run in the final third. The Frenchman can also provide adequate protection to his team’s backline, which makes him such a useful asset for Marseille.
What Should Be Bruce’s Play Here?
The addition of a multi-purpose midfielder like Sanson will undeniably be a massive coup for the Magpies if they can find a way to lure him to St. James’ Park. He will not only add more quality to Steve Bruce’s midfield but could also improve the overall depth of the Newcastle squad.
Therefore, Bruce should try everything he can to orchestrate a move for Sanson as he could help Newcastle cement their position as Premier League regulars in the coming years.
