In the post-match press conference after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss at home to Valencia (via the Metro), the Pensioners boss Frank Lampard provided an update on Mason Mount’s injury and said, ‘He has got an ankle injury which we don’t know how bad it is.
‘We are going to have to assess it in the next 24-48 hours to see the scale of the injury, to see how the injury is.
‘It’s too soon to say, obviously it was a shame because he was playing so well and started well and we had to make the change early.’
Mount’s Incredible Season In The English Top-Flight So Far
This recent development will be a bitter pill to swallow for anyone associated with the West London club. Mount was playing some of his best football before his injury on Tuesday night versus Valencia in the UEFA Champions League. The English youngster has already produced a few match-winning displays for the Pensioners this season.
The 20-year-old has scored three goals in five matches for Chelsea in the Premier League so far. If he can continue with his impressive current form, then he has the potential to be a world-class player in his position in the coming years. However, the fact remains that Mount has sustained an ankle injury which could hamper his progress at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard would hope that the Portsmouth-born youngster can make a speedy recovery so that he can be fit in time to face off against the European champions, Liverpool this weekend.
What Does The English Rising Star Offer On The Pitch?
Mount is a terrific young talent who can score or create goals from midfield consistently at the highest level. He has an eye for a killer pass in the final third and does not shy away from having a pop at goal from time to time.
What makes the English whizkid such an exceptional prospect is his ability to link up well with others around him so that the whole team can function as a unit in the offensive end of the field.
Mount’s Latest Injury Setback: Big Blow For The Pensioners?
Mount’s injury against Valencia could see him miss out on this Sunday’s blockbuster clash versus the Premier League leaders. It will be a massive blow for Lampard and his chances of securing a positive result versus Jurgen Klopp’s men at the Bridge. The English starlet has arguably been one of Lampard’s most potent weapons going forward along with Tammy Abraham. Therefore, the Pensioners need him back soon if they are to challenge for major trophies this term.
