According to a recent report by the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool’s Divock Origi and Andrew Robertson were not present during the club’s pre-match training session ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener against Napoli at the San Paolo Stadium tomorrow night. It is believed that Origi is a significant doubt for the European encounter at Naples on Tuesday after sustaining an ankle injury versus Newcastle United last weekend (via the Liverpool Echo).
Robertson’s Return To Form At Anfield
However, Robertson’s absence was unexpected from today’s training. Jurgen Klopp will now be sweating on the fitness of the Scotland international as he prepares his side for a tough encounter versus Carlo Ancelotti’s men. The 25-year-old produced a superb display at Anfield on Saturday as he helped his team maintain their 100% winning record in the Premier League this season.
The Glasgow-born talent is gradually returning to form after a slow start to this campaign. Robertson has featured in seven matches for the Reds this term and has one assist to his name on all fronts. He is also the captain of the Scottish national team and has made 31 international appearances for them, scoring three goals thus far.
Origi Has Played An Integral Role Behind Liverpool’s Recent Success
Klopp will also feel Origi’s absence as he has often been a difference-maker off the Liverpool bench. The Belgian striker proved his worth for the Merseyside giants last season when he scored a few memorable goals in some of Liverpool’s most important fixtures of the 2018-19 campaign.
Origi netted the second goal in the UEFA Champions League final versus Tottenham Hotspur last season which has made him a fan-favourite at Anfield. The Liverpool supporters will hope that both players can make a speedy recovery so they could help the Reds continue their brilliant start to this campaign.
Liverpool Duo’s Absence From Training: Big Worry For The Reds?
Not having Robertson could see the European champions struggle against Napoli in midweek as Klopp will be forced to play James Milner as the left-back. The English veteran might find it challenging to cope with the threat of Jose Callejon down the wide areas.
The Reds are in for a testing week with back to back away matches against Napoli and Chelsea looming on the horizon. Hence, not having Robertson and Origi available will undoubtedly be a massive worry for Klopp.
