Norwich City produced one of the best performances in recent years when they edged past Premier League champions Manchester City despite having a threadbare squad. Teemu Pukki was the star of the show, notably scoring the goal that separated the two teams.
The Finnish forward has now netted six goals in five league games. And it’s probably needless to say that if Pukki continues to perform at this rate, it’s only a matter of time before big clubs start to launch raids for him. In this article, we will discuss players Norwich City could target as a potential replacement for the forward in January.
Chris Wood
Chris Wood has been the first-choice striker for Burnley so far this campaign. He has partnered Ashley Barnes in Sean Dyche’s 4-4-2. And while Barnes is flying high with four goals, Wood has failed to find the back of the net so far, with new signing Jay Rodriguez already pushing for a start.
Norwich, in that regard, could be an ideal destination for Wood even if Pukki stays at the Carrow Road beyond January. The 27-year-old can be utilised as a back-up for the Fin while his vast experience in English football makes him a less risky option compared to other players on this list.
Haris Seferovic
Haris Seferovic has become one of the most lethal forwards in Portugal since leaving Eintracht Frankfurt. After joining Benfica in 2017, the Swiss international has netted 35 goals in just 85 competitive matches.
A product of the Luzern youth academy, Seferovic’s aggressive and robust style of play is ideally suited to Daniel Farke’s heavy metal football. He is known for his willingness to close down defenders while his physical and aerial prowess makes him a tailor-made fit for the athletic nature of the Premier League.
Added to that, Seferovic has an excellent goalscoring record as well. He does, however, have a long-term contract at Benfica, which expires in 2024.
Munir El Haddadi
Former Barcelona academy sensation Munir El Haddadi was rated as the next big thing in football when he was promoted to the senior side back in 2015. But, the Spaniard never really managed to make a breakthrough even at clubs like Valencia or Alaves, let alone Barcelona.
That being said, Munir did show a little bit of hope last season, when he scored five goals for Sevilla. This season, however, he has mustered only 85 minutes of league football. It’s unlikely that the 24-year-old will have any future, following the arrival of Luuk de Jong, Munas Dabbur and Chicharito this summer.
Norwich, in that regard, could take full advantage of this situation and make a move for the Spaniard in January. Munir, is no doubt, a talented individual and might finally find his feet in the Premier League.
