Former England centre-forward Peter Crouch has backed Liverpool to be the perfect fit for Borussia Dortmund wide player Jadon Sancho (via the Daily Mail). In his column with the Daily Mail, the ex-Liverpool striker was full of praise for the English winger and wrote, “What he did to launch his career deserves huge praise.
“It couldn’t have been easy leaving England to play club football in Germany, but he looks destined to become a superstar and I thought he was superb against Kosovo.
“The easy thing for him to do would have been to remain at Manchester City, get paid well and make the odd appearance off the bench, but he stepped out of his comfort zone to join Borussia Dortmund and you can see how much he is enjoying himself.
“The more I see of Sancho, the more I am convinced he is going to be the one who explodes on to the scene.
“All being well, he will return to the Premier League.
“Clubs will be queuing up to sign him and while there has been noise about him joining Manchester United, I wonder whether Liverpool might actually be the perfect fit.
“It would not surprise me to see him at Anfield.”
Crouch makes a good point as Jurgen Klopp’s style of play at Merseyside will suit the English youngster very well. Sancho has made a brilliant start to this season after he netted three goals and provided four assists in five matches for Lucien Favre’s team on all fronts.
Since joining from Manchester City in the summer transfer window of 2017, the Bundesliga rising star has gone on to make 60 appearances for Dortmund, finding the back of the net on 17 occasions while creating 27 assists in all competitions. The 19-year-old has also represented Gareth Southgate’s England national side in six matches but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for the Three Lions.
What Will The English Teen Sensation Add To Klopp’s Team?
Sancho boasts electric pace that allows him to complete some dangerous dribbles down the wide positions. The English starlet comes alive when left isolated with his marker in a 1v1 situation and possesses the speed and guile to wreak havoc in the final third. Furthermore, the ex-Man City prospect can regularly score or create goals at the highest level, which makes him an excellent fit for Liverpool.
Recruiting a player of Sancho’s potential will undeniably be a fantastic acquisition for the Reds as his attributes will complement Klopp’s current attacking options at Anfield. The European champions need to add depth to their squad if they are to challenge for more silverware in the coming years. Sancho could play as an ideal back-up to Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane and even has the potential to replace them in Klopp’s first-team someday.
Does Crouch Have A Point When He Claims That Liverpool Will Be The Perfect Fit For Sancho?
For now, the English speedster is better off staying in Germany as he is earning regular game time. However, Crouch has a point when he tips his former club to be an ideal destination for Sancho. Klopp has shown in the past that he can develop some of his younger stars as evidenced by the recent emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rhian Brewster. Hence, Sancho could be another English gem who can flourish under the expert guidance of the German head coach at Merseyside.
