According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Chelsea are confident about their chances of getting their transfer ban shortened and have told leading agents about their expectations to work on transfer dealings in January. The same source has also revealed that the Pensioners have launched an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to get their two-transfer window ban reduced to one which they had already served earlier this summer.
One agent has provided an update on the development and said (via the Daily Mirror), “Chelsea are anxious to strengthen their squad and seem pretty confident that they will win the appeal and be able to trade again in January.
“It could mean the difference to them finishing in the Premier League top four and qualifying for the Champions League.”
If the West London outfit end up winning the appeal, then Frank Lampard would have to strengthen wisely during the winter transfer window so that he has a strong squad capable of challenging on all fronts in the second half of this campaign.
Here are the three players that the Chelsea boss should consider recruiting in January if he intends to see his side finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.
Callum Wilson
The Bournemouth striker had the best year of his playing career last season when he scored 14 goals and grabbed ten assists in 30 league appearances. The English forward has made a decent start to this campaign as well after netting one goal and creating one assist in five matches for the Cherries across all competitions.
Wilson can be a lethal finisher in the final third and is a consistent goal-scorer at the highest level. He will be a perfect fit for the Pensioners as they are in dire need of a prolific goal-getter at Stamford Bridge.
James Maddison
The Coventry-born prospect enjoyed a fantastic debut season with the Foxes in the previous term. He has made a brilliant start to this campaign as well after scoring one goal and creating two assists in five matches on all fronts. The 22-year-old has the potential to become one of the best creative midfielders in the top tier of England. Therefore, Lampard should consider bringing him to Stamford Bridge if the transfer ban gets lifted in January.
Jonathan Tah
The Bundesliga centre-back is a reliable presence at the back and can command his own box with authority and conviction. He is one of the leading defenders in the German top-flight and has improved a lot during his time at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Tah could be an ideal centre-half option for Chelsea as he is a powerhouse in defence and can make vital interceptions for his team.
