As reported by Mirror, James Maddison has recently opened up about his future, though he didn’t have a great to say. The Leicester star was linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this summer, but a move didn’t materialise.
“I want to play at the highest level my ability will allow me to. I like to think I’ve my head screwed on with the transfers I’ve made. I’ve played League One, in Scotland, the Championship and the Premier League. I worked my way up.”, Maddison responded when asked about his future. This could serve as a massive boost for the Red Devils.
Maddison is one of England’s hottest prospects
After moving to Leicester City last summer, for a fee of €25 million, Maddison has become one of Premier League’s best playmakers. It is mainly due to his wonderful debut campaign in the top flight that has seen him score seven goals and provide seven assists.
Maddison’s creative contribution played a vital role for Leicester, especially following the departure of star man Riyad Mahrez. Not only assists, but the England international has also adapted tremendously well under two different managers.
He covered several different roles assigned to him by Claude Puel and Brendan Rodgers respectively. Maddison also featured as a central midfielder, at times. But, his performances remained the same as he ended the campaign, notching up more key passes than anyone else in the league.
Maddison is the missing piece in the jigsaw for Man United
Manchester United have had a difficult summer transfer window, failing to land most of their top targets. They even lack the services of an out and out striker.
However, Anthony Martial has done pretty well, replacing Romelu Lukaku, who moved to Inter Milan. He has built a solid partnership with Marcus Rashford while new signing Daniel James has scored a couple of delightful goals.
Maddison, in that regard, could further strengthen United’s attacking department. He could allow Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer to employ a 4-4-2, with him and James operating on the flanks while Martial and Rashford would lead the attack.
What’s so exciting about this formation is that the four attackers are all young talented individuals, who have room to improve and further enhance their quality. As for Maddison, he can provide the creative essence in the final third. His mobility and pace make him an upgrade over Juan Mata and at the age of 22, he could be an excellent long-term investment for the Red Devils.
