Liverpool have had a perfect start to the season so far as they won the UEFA Super Cup and are yet to drop points in the Premier League. The only setback Klopp has faced is in terms of injuries as he lost Alisson Becker to injury against Norwich City.
Journalist Duncan Castles meanwhile believes that Liverpool will find it hard to keep Mohamed Salah at Anfield for long. He believes that Barcelona, Real Madrid or Juventus could come calling for the Egyptian star who won back to back golden boots in the Premier League.
Castles On Salah’s future
In his Reach Plc’s Transfer Window podcast, he said, ”There’s also this kind of feeling, informed feeling in football, that Mohamed Salah might not stay at Liverpool for the entirety of his career if he has another season like the last two seasons he’s had and one of the really big names of European football, the absolute elite clubs. If a Barcelona or a Real Madrid, possibly Juventus, come in and say ‘we want to sign this player and we are prepared to go to the huge transfer fee that would be involved to take him’, whether he would push for that move. If he does, then obviously, he would have to be replaced.”
Why staying at Liverpool is the best bet for Salah?
No one can be certain what the future holds and Salah will probably not play the entirety of his career at Liverpool. However, Liverpool have been challenging for top honours for two years in a row now, and they can be considered as one of the elites now in world football.
As long as their current core of the team is intact and they keep challenging for top honours even the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Juventus wouldn’t be able to lure the Egyptian star.
However, it could be a different matter if Salah himself tries to push for a move away sometime in the future. But he should be wary of the fact that Anfield is the place where he has been able to express himself the best. His start at the Merseyside took everyone by surprise as nobody expected him to be such a significant goal threat when he joined from AS Roma.
We have seen how players, when not used in the right way, struggle to find their feet and Philippe Coutinho’s stint at Barcelona is the prime example for it. There is no guarantee that Salah would be able to perform at this level once he leaves the Reds. It would be tough to ignore big money, but Liverpool should be able to keep the 27-year-old star for the next two-three years atleast.
