According to a recent report by Record (via Sport Witness), Sporting CP has the option to sign Yannick Bolasie from Everton permanently when his season-long loan spell expires at the end of this campaign. The same source has also claimed that the Portuguese outfit would have to cough up €4.5m if they want to secure the services of the Toffees wide man on a permanent basis next summer.
Bolasie’s Frustrating Spell At Merseyside
The Liga NOS giants managed to bring the Congolese winger to the José Alvalade Stadium on a season-long loan deal before the European transfer market came to a close on September 2nd (via BBC). Bolasie made a name for himself during his time with Crystal Palace, but his performances have taken a significant dip following his switch to Goodison Park in the summer of 2016.
The Lyon-born speedster has scored two goals and grabbed four assists in 32 senior appearances for Everton. The 30-year-old’s time at Merseyside has been plagued with injuries. Therefore, the Toffees decided to loan him out to Aston Villa, RSC Anderlecht and now, Sporting CP over the past few years.
Bolasie has represented the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 35 international matches and has registered nine goals for his nation so far.
What Does The DR Congo International Offer On The Field?
Bolasie is highly versatile and can operate in any position across the frontline. He can play on either wing or as a centre-forward up top which is one of the many reasons why Everton decided to sign him back in 2016. The Congolese wide player boasts decent pace and can dribble with the ball at top speed to cause problems for the opposition defenders. However, the former Bristol City ace needs to add more end product to his game if he wants to reignite his career in European football.
Did Silva Make The Right Call By Sanctioning A Permanent Option In Bolasie’s Loan Contract?
At 30, Bolasie is about to embark upon the twilight years of his football career so it would be wise for him to switch clubs permanently in search of more game time. Marco Silva already has a plethora of attacking talents at Goodison Park. Therefore, the Toffees head coach should not stand in Bolasie’s way if he fancies a permanent transfer to Portugal next summer.
Everton can also benefit from getting the Congolese winger off their wage bill and bagging a cool €4.5m transfer fee in the process. All in all, it was the right call by Silva to let Bolasie join Sporting with an option for a permanent transfer at the end of this campaign.
