Rangers made a great start to the season, but they were dented heavily by the Old Firm derby defeat. What’s worse is that they will have to ponder over it for weeks as we are in an international break right now. Rangers were being seen as the clear favourite for the Ibrox clash, but most of the players failed to turn up when it mattered the most.
One player who has struggled off late is Glen Kamara. The Finnish midfielder was chucked off at half-time in the derby, and he hasn’t been the same player over the past couple of months. Gerrard has rotated in midfield and based on form right now, Kamara is unlikely to make the cut in Rangers’ strongest playing eleven.
Kamara on his current form
Kamara recently admitted that he has gone off the boil slightly. The former Dundee player said (Football Scotland), “The substitution was a tactical change – that’s what the manager told me. He wanted to go more attacking because we were 1-0 down. I haven’t played as much this season because we have a big squad and the manager has rotated. But if I’m honest, I probably haven’t been in my best form, and I’ve not been as good as I thought I was last season, and that’s probably the reason I haven’t played as much.”
It’s good to see the player realising where he stands right now. Acknowledging that he hasn’t been good enough is the first step towards improving one’s performance. The midfielder joined Rangers in January, and soon became a regular feature in Gerrard’s midfield.
Breakdown of the Rolls Royce?
Rangers ended their campaign on an impressive note last season, and Kamara played a significant role in that feat. He was so good in that period that Gerrard once lavished huge praises on him and said (The Scottish Sun), ”Kamara has settled in so well. He is a lovely footballer and looked like a Rolls Royce out there at times.”
Well, the Rolls Royce has seemed to run out of gas at the moment, and the midfielder will have to improve on his performances if he wants a way back to Gerrard’s first-team. Steven Davis and Ryan Jack have been pretty much faultless so far, and new signing Joe Aribo has also caught the eye.
Experienced midfielder Andy King is also an option now, so Kamara will know that he will have to pull up his socks to get regular game time this season. Hopefully, from Rangers’ point of view, he could soon start churning up top performances after the international break.
