As reported by Express, Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho has confirmed that he would welcome a move to Premier League or La Liga. “I can’t tell the future, but I wouldn’t mind,” he said when asked about the chances of a return to England. “La Liga I wouldn’t mind also, but we don’t know yet.”
A return to England was always a possibility for the winger. But, his interest in moving to Spain suggests that Barcelona should, in fact, keep tabs on him this season.
Sancho’s incredible rise to prominence
Sancho initially joined Borussia Dortmund back in 2017 in search of regular game-time. He didn’t exactly play a key role during his debut campaign in the Bundesliga. But, a few good performances during the backend of the season forced Lucien Favre to offer him a chance to make a breakthrough at Dortmund.
And that he did. Sancho made 34 league appearances, scoring 12 goals and registering a whopping 17 assists. He was involved in more goals than Dortmund superstar Marco Reus. His performances on the flanks helped the Black and Yellows make a strong push for the Bundesliga title as they missed out by just two points.
Sancho started this new campaign on a positive note as well, scoring two goals and providing three assists in three matches. He was, however, ineffective in the recent defeat to Union Berlin, despite picking up an assist to Paco Alcacer’s equaliser.
What can he bring to the table?
A right-winger by trade, Sancho is predominantly known for his trickery on the flanks. He has exceptionally quick-feet that allows him to nestle through tight spaces. It also provides a sense of unpredictability in regards to his feet movements, making him a difficult player to defend against.
Aside from his dribbling prowess, Sancho is blessed with the sheer pace that makes him a scourge for the opponents on the counter. Additionally, he is quite good at one-touch football and links up well with his teammates. But, what makes him such a unique component in attack is his knack for scoring goals.
Is Sancho a good option for Barcelona?
Much like Ousmane Dembele, Sancho could be a risky signing for Barcelona. The youngster would at least cost over €100 million, and at the age of just 19, he may not be ready to cope with the soaring expectations of the Catalan outfit.
From a tactical perspective, however, Sancho’s style of play fits in well with Barca’s possession-based football. And if he can flourish adequately, he could become a real asset for the Spanish champions in the years to come. A lot will depend on whether or not Sancho manages to replicate his form in the Bundesliga this campaign.
