Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that Bobby Duncan has completed a permanent move to Fiorentina. The English youngster has decided to make a switch away from Merseyside in search of more first-team opportunities.
Duncan’s Short Yet Successful Spell At Liverpool
Duncan joined the Merseyside outfit from Manchester City last summer but has decided to end his Anfield career as he failed to break into Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI. The 18-year-old was a star for the Reds at the academy level after he put in numerous goal-scoring displays for them last season. The English prospect scored 32 goals in the youth ranks of Liverpool and was also instrumental behind their FA Youth Cup success in the previous campaign.
Duncan, who is the cousin of Liverpool legend and Rangers head coach Steven Gerrard, caught the eye with his performances for the Merseyside outfit during pre-season when he managed to find the back of the net against Tranmere Rovers.
However, he never got a chance to make his first competitive start for Liverpool and will now try his luck in Italian football so that he can take his game to new heights. The Fiorentina new boy has also represented England at various youth levels and is currently a vital member of the English U-18 side.
What Are The English Starlet’s Best Attributes?
Duncan is an unforgiving finisher in front of the opposition goal which makes such a lethal presence in the final third. The English teenager can score goals with both feet and is confident in his own ability to step up and perform under the spotlight. He managed to score 23 goals and provide eight assists in 26 appearances for the Reds U-18 side last season.
Can The Reds Cope With Duncan’s Absence?
Even though Duncan forcing his departure will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Merseyside giants, the fact remains that the English striker was Klopp’s sixth-choice striking option at Anfield this season. The Whiston-born talent fell behind the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster in the Liverpool pecking order. Hence, it is no wonder that the youngster gave up on his dreams of success at Merseyside and decided to try his luck somewhere else.
The Reds will hardly feel the absence of Duncan as he was not even a part of their match-day squads for the 2019-20 campaign. However, it will be a slight blow for the club’s Academy that Klopp might look to address when the transfer window reopens in January.
