Real Madrid have had an eventful summer transfer window this summer, having flushed out a whopping €300 million in new signings. It is a list of players that include Eden Hazard, Rodrygo and Eder Militao among many others.
Madrid’s market activity gives us a clear indication that the Spanish giants are looking ahead to the future. And the road is not going to be a smooth one, with so many new players. In this article, we will figure out the strongest possible Real Madrid lineup, including all of their new signings.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence
Thibaut Courtois didn’t exactly enjoy a successful debut campaign in Real Madrid colours. But, the Belgian is still the undisputed number one ‘keeper for Los Blancos.
Danny Carvajal, despite his health problems, should remain Real Madrid’s number one right-back, ahead of Alvaro Odriozola. Same cannot be said for Marcelo, however, who has lost his form and has struggled with a lot of injuries over the past few years.
New signing Ferland Mendy should replace the Brazilian international. The 24-year old showed a lot of promise in Olympique Lyon and could be an exciting addition to the backline.
It’s about time Real Madrid needs to prepare for the future, meaning they should stop relying on the services of Sergio Ramos anymore. The Spaniard, at the age of 33, is already in the final phase of his career. His influence has also waned over the past 12 months or so.
Therefore, Militao should become the club’s primary centre-back, alongside Raphael Varane at the heart of the four-man backline. Speaking of Varane, he has been at the club for eight years now and should be given leadership responsibilities.
Midfield
Casemiro is the undisputed number one holding midfielder for Real Madrid. He will operate as the number six and will be charged with the responsibility of disrupting the opposition’s flow in the middle of the park. The Brazilian will be partnered by Toni Kroos, in a slightly advanced role.
Kroos was extremely inconsistent last season, especially in crucial matches. And he needs to perform well if he is to keep his place in the starting lineup. The ex-Bayern Munich star will be supported by Isco, who should be given a second opportunity after a terrible 2018/19 campaign.
Isco will feature in a slightly more advanced role than Kroos and will be expected to provide the creative spark going forward.
Attack
Vinicius Junior has shown a lot of promise since arriving at the Bernabeu last summer. But, the Brazilian is still not ready to take on the mantle of regular first-team action at the highest level of football. As a result, we will opt for Gareth Bale in the right-wing slot.
Eden Hazard, on the other hand, is expected to become the face of the Real Madrid attack following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last summer. He is a guaranteed pick on the opposite flank.
And finally, the Madrid attack will be led by Karim Benzema, ahead of youngster Luka Jovic, who still needs more time to settle into his new club.
