Liverpool travelled to the Turf Moor to clash heads with Burnley earlier today hoping to win their 13th consecutive match in the Premier League. The Reds began the game on the front foot and took the lead in the 33rd minute via a freak own goal from Chris Wood. Sadio Mane doubled the visitors’ lead just four minutes later when he rolled the ball in with a calm finish from close range.
The Merseyside outfit went on to score another goal in the second half courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s powerful strike in the 80th minute. The match ended with Jurgen Klopp’s men running away with all three points from Lancashire after claiming a 3-0 win over the Clarets this weekend.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the clash against Sean Dyche’s team.
GK: Adrian – 7/10
The Spanish keeper was hardly troubled during the game but made a couple of good saves to secure his first clean sheet of the season.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
His whipped crosses from the wide areas caused all sorts of problems for the Burnley defenders in the first half. However, he was a bit vulnerable defensively with Dwight McNeil always willing to run behind him on the counter.
CB: Joel Matip – 7.5/10
The Cameroonian centre-back bossed the game and made some crucial interceptions for his team.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 8/10
The recently unveiled UEFA Men’s Player of the Year produced another outstanding defensive display today. He won numerous aerial duels and comfortably managed to keep the Clarets at bay.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 6.5/10
The Scottish full-back worked his socks off and was hardly beaten in a 1v1 situation out on the wide positions. However, he failed to deliver a decisive pass in the final third, which will disappoint him.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 7/10
The Liverpool captain was full of energy and creativity in midfield. He unlocked the Burnley defence with a pin-point through-pass in the first half. However, Salah failed to control the ball, and the chance was gone. Henderson went down with an injury in the second half and was soon replaced as a precaution.
CM: Fabinho – 7/10
The Brazilian midfield ace fought for every loose ball in midfield and helped his team establish their dominance at the centre of the park.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 6/10
The Dutchman was always trying to link up play with others around him. However, he failed to show enough invention in the Burnley half.
RM: Mohamed Salah – 6/10
The Egyptian winger was very selfish in the attacking third of the pitch and squandered some decent opportunities to score. However, he did end up with an assist to show for his efforts.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 9/10
The Brazilian forward dropped deep and tried to make things happen in the final third. He set-up Mane’s goal with a perfectly weighted pass and found the back of the net himself with a well-directed finish in the second half.
LM: Sadio Mane – 8.5/10
The Senegalese speedster was a menace for the Clarets defenders as they struggled to cope with his threat during the game. Mane registered his name on the scoresheet to put some daylight between the two teams in the first half. However, his antics after being subbed was a bit uncalled for in the second half.
Substitutes:
CM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10
He had a shot from long-range, but it was straight at the Burnley keeper.
RM: Xherdan Shaqiri – N/A
The Swiss winger did not have enough time to make an impact.
ST: Divock Origi – N/A
The Belgian striker came on to run the clock down for the away side.
