In a recent interview with Sport Buzzer (translated by the Daily Mirror), Red Bull Leipzig striker Timo Werner has refused to rule out a future move abroad despite penning a new, long-term contract at the Red Bull Arena recently. The German striker, who has been linked with Liverpool earlier this summer, shared his thoughts on his future with Sport Buzzer and said, “I don’t exclude anything. I am and remain a player of RB Leipzig.
“Of course, that also played a role in my thinking.
“We are great in every way; we play Champions League, we have a lot going for us.”
Werner’s Sensational Goal-Scoring Record For Both Club And Country
The 23-year-old has made a fantastic start to the new Bundesliga campaign, having scored two goals in as many league matches so far this season. Since arriving from Stuttgart in the summer of 2016, Werner has gone on to feature in 117 matches for Leipzig, registering 63 goals while grabbing 28 assists across all competitions.
The Stuttgart-born talent is also vastly experienced at the international level, having made 25 appearances for his nation while scoring ten goals in various tournaments so far. He has been a prolific goal-scorer in the German top-flight over the past few seasons.
What Does The German International Offer On The Field?
Werner boasts electric pace and can make some well-timed runs behind the opposition defence. He can time his runs to perfection while beating the off-side trap, and that makes him a potent goal-threat on the counter. The German striker would have been a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s brand of football at Merseyside as he is a forward who loves to work hard and cause problems using his speed and agility when transitioning from defence to attack.
Werner Keeping His Options Open: Huge Boost For The Reds?
The acquisition of Werner would have not only improved Klopp’s attacking options significantly at Anfield but also added more competition for Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi for a starting berth in the Liverpool first-team. Hence, the fact that Werner is not willing to rule out a move abroad could be a big boost for the Reds and their chances of bringing the German forward to Merseyside in the coming years.
Klopp should consider orchestrating a move to secure the services of Werner when the English transfer window reopens in January as the German sensation could help Liverpool end their 30-year wait for a Premier League title.
