Rangers have started their season well, and they are yet to lose in their new campaign. Steven Gerrard has once again been active in the transfer market, and without spending much, he has been able to add depth and quality to the squad.
However, there is one name which the Gers would still want, and that is Ryan Kent. The Liverpool man had a terrific last season which saw him win Rangers’ young player of the year award.
The Scottish heavyweights have been priced out of a move and Liverpool are unwilling to send the 22-year old on another loan spell. There have been subtle indications that even Kent wants a move to Rangers this summer. After all who would like to play for an u-23 developmental squad when someone can play in front of 50,000 fans every week.
Latest on Kent
Jordan Campbell of the Atheltic in a Q and A session revealed that indeed Kent wants a move back to Ibrox. He also went on to give a blueprint to how Rangers can still manage to get their man. A fan asked him about the chances of Rangers signing Kent to which he replied, ”Rangers and Kent both want it to happen but don’t see Liverpool relenting. Best hope is Rangers get a loan to buy near the end of the window. Would be compulsory rather than an option I think, though.”
How can Rangers finance a move for Kent?
We think that there could be still some hope as Rangers might have the funds to make a permanent move next summer. The Gers won’t have to spend much in the following two-three windows after the significant surgeries to the squad they have made in the last one year. They are more or less well covered in all departments so they can only concentrate on getting Kent after this year.
A lot is likely going to rest on the future of Morelos and Rangers will be banking on the Colombian quite heavily. The striker has already revealed that playing in the Premier League is his dream and we think that Rangers wouldn’t be able to keep him for long. If Rangers agree on a loan with an option to buy for Kent this season, then we can very much expect the Gers to sell Morelos next year to finance that deal.
The Gers are reportedly looking to get somewhere around £20m for the Colombian, and with that kind of money, they should be able to get Kent as well as a decent replacement for Morelos. Therefore we think that a loan to buy move is possible, but Rangers will be under pressure to get a solid deal for Morelos next summer. Will they take that risk? Only time will tell that.
