Rangers have quite clearly been interested in getting Ryan Kent on another loan spell, but Liverpool made it clear that they weren’t looking for a loan deal for the winger. Liverpool have kept a price tag of £8m which is something Rangers are unlikely to come up with.
However, the Gers were given a bit of hope recently as Kent was reportedly willing to down his tools to push for a move to Rangers. The winger wasn’t even on the bench against Chelsea’s u-23 game recently, and there was some hope that maybe Liverpool might change their stance if they are not able to find a permanent buyer.
Gerrard’s latest update on Kent
However, Steven Gerrard recently made it clear that the Champions League holders are still sticking to their demands, and there has been no change in their stance. The manager recently said (Daily Record), ”There’s been no change or developments since the last time we asked Liverpool and were told there wouldn’t be a loan situation. Nothing has changed on it.”
“But you never give up on trying to improve your team and squad. You never give up on following and tracking top players. I made it pretty clear over the course of 12 months working with Ryan how highly I rate him, so I’d never shut the door on any player and certainly top players but I have to understand, respect and appreciate the situation of his parent club.”
There seems to be no progression in Rangers’ favour as of now. The English transfer window is already closed, and Kent hasn’t attracted interest from other clubs outside of the UK. Leeds United were the only one seriously interested, but they too were unwilling to match Liverpool’s asking price.
Kent would undoubtedly be a great signing still as he showed considerable improvements in the second half of the season. His direct playing style, impressive work rate and his ever-improving final product made him a great option.
No cause for worry for Rangers
Rangers have anyway done well in the transfer market, and they have recruited smartly. They have added depth in the wide region by bringing in the likes of Jordan Jones, Brandon Barker, Sheyi Ojo and Jake Hastie. So missing out on Kent shouldn’t be too big a blow. The Gers have started their season strongly and are they have a hundred percent winning record in the domestic games. They are also one win away from securing a place in the Europa League main draws.
