According to a recent report by Sky Sports, Fiorentina have launched a loan offer with an option to buy for Liverpool youngster Bobby Duncan. The Reds had rejected a loan move from FC Nordsjælland for the English whizkid earlier this month (via Sky Sports).
Duncan, who is the cousin of the Rangers manager and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, has enjoyed a fantastic preseason for the Merseyside outfit. He scored against Tranmere Rovers and put in a couple of impressive cameos before the start of the new campaign.
However, Duncan is yet to make an appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s senior side and has not been part of the Liverpool match-day squad versus the Gunners yesterday. In an interview back in June, Klopp shared his thoughts on Duncan and U18 captain Paul Glatzel when he said (via Sky Sports), “These boys are our future if they want to be our future but this pre-season is, for them, exciting of course.
“When you are already in the club then the door is always open for you to the first team: the thing is you have to go through by yourself.”
Duncan’s Current Situation At Merseyside
However, it seems like Duncan can benefit from a change of scenery especially when he has the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster ahead of him in the Anfield pecking order.
The English prospect is in dire need to prove his value in the Under-23 level if he intends to feature for the Liverpool first-team in the coming years. The 18-year-old has made three appearances for the Reds U-23 side but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for them this season
What Are The English Starlet’s Best Attributes?
Duncan is a natural finisher which makes him a lethal presence in the opposition penalty area. The Liverpool rising star does not shy away from the spotlight and can find the back of the net consistently as evidenced by his tally of 23 goals and eight assists in 26 appearances for the Liverpool Under-18s.
Should The Reds Let Duncan Leave This Summer?
The Whiston-born has the makings of a future star at Anfield and so the Reds will be foolish to let him leave with an option to buy this summer. However, if they are only willing to loan him without any clauses of a permanent departure, then it makes sense as Duncan will be able to earn some valuable first-team experience at a club like Fiorentina.
At the same time, Klopp could also choose to retain the youngster’s services for the 2019-20 campaign as the Reds are set to compete in five different competitions. Hence, the German head coach would need to have a big squad if he wants his side to deal with fixture congestion and do well in the domestic cup competitions this term.
