Tottenham Hotspur emerged with a lucky draw against Manchester City last weekend away from home. Next, they will host Newcastle United at their new stadium hoping to keep up with the top teams. Pochettino would have been happy to take a draw at Etihad, and all games will certainly feel easier for them after that tie.
Newcastle United are one of four teams who are yet to open their account this season as they suffered a back to back defeats against Arsenal and Norwich City. They fought hard against the Gunners and were beaten narrowly by one goal. But they capitulated completely against newly-promoted Norwich as the Canaries won 3-1. Spurs will have the chance to pile more misery on Steven Bruce who would be feeling the pressure after just a handful of games.
Team News: Dele Alli has been struggling with a hamstring injury, but he could make the squad in this tie. However, his situation is still uncertain, and it could go either way. Juan Foyth is likely to be out until September after injuring himself in a pre-season game.
Summer signing Ryan Sessegnon is also set to miss out due to a hamstring injury. The positive news for Pochettino is that Son Heung-Min is back available after serving his three-match suspension which carried over from the last season.
Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup Vs Newcastle United
Formation (4-2-3-1)
Defence
Captain Hugo Lloris will start in goal. Davinson Sanchez should start at the back alongside Toby Alderweireld in the heart of the defence. Jan Vertonghen has fallen out of favour this season so he might miss out. Kyle Walker-Peters should keep his place on the right side of the defence. Danny Rose is expected to start over Ben Davies in the left-back role.
Midfield
Tanguy Ndombele has settled in well, and he has already made two attacking contributions in the Premier League so far. He should start in midfield. Moussa Sissoko should partner him in central areas. We expect Son Heung-Min to jump straight back into the lineup. His direct playing style and pace will create a lot of difference in the attacking third, and he should start on the left.
This could be a good game to give Giovani Lo Celso a start, and he could feature in an attacking midfield role. Lucas Moura could begin from the right-hand side of the attacking three.
Attack
Harry Kane is an obvious choice for Pochettino to lead Tottenham’s line.
