Wolves will square up against Burnley after securing a 3-2 victory against Serie A side Torino in the Europa League playoffs. Many were worried about Wolves’ fate in the Premier League after they made it to Europe, but they have juggled the two competitions well so far.
The West Midlands club have played out two draws in their first two Premier League games of the season, and both the ties were evenly matched against Leicester City and Manchester United. Wolves managed to claim a hard-fought win over Torino in the first leg away from home in Europe, so there could be a case of fatigue when they take on Burnley at the Molineux on Sunday. The Clarets have got a decent record against Wolves as they have lost just once in their last six league encounters.
Team News: Matt Doherty was subbed off at half time against Manchester United, and it seemed like he was playing through an illness. That shouldn’t be a significant concern for the club, and the Irish wingback should be available for future games.
Wolverhampton Wanderers Predicted Lineup Vs Burnley
Formation (3-5-2)
Defence
Rui Patricio emerged as a big hero in the last Premier League tie as he saved a penalty from Paul Pogba. The Portuguese international will start in goal once again. Willy Boly has emerged as the mainstay in Santo’s backline, and he will take his place on the left side of the back three.
Former Liverpool defender Conor Coady will start in the middle as he is calm and composed and can pass the ball out from the back. Ryan Bennett is likely to complete the back three by starting on the right.
Midfield
Ruben Neves scored a brilliant goal against United in the last game, and he should be a nailed-on starter in midfield. Joao Moutinho should partner him in the central areas. The other midfield spot will likely go to Leander Dendoncker. Jonny Castro is expected to start in a left wing-back role. Adama Traore managed to make a positive impact after coming on against Manchester United. But Matt Doherty provides more solidity overall, and the Irishman is likely to be preferred over the more attacking Traore down the right.
Attack
Diogo Jota has emerged as a crucial player for Wolves, so he will start as a member of the front two. Raul Jimenez came close to snatching a winner against United. He is still in search of his first Premier League goal this season. The Mexican international should get the nod to play alongside Jota up top.
