Ryan Kent emerged as a crucial player for Rangers last season, and Steven Gerrard has given all indication that he wants him at Ibrox for another year. However, Liverpool are holding on to a price tag of £8m and a permanent from Rangers is out of the equation. But with the English transfer window now over, there seem to be no takers for Kent, and the winger is currently plying his trade for the Liverpool’s u-23 side.
Kent willing to down his tools
Latest reports from Daily Record conveys that Kent is ready to down his tools to push through a move to Ibrox this summer. With just a few days remaining in the transfer window, the Gers can still get their man on loan if Liverpool allows him to leave.
Kent is willing to take this extreme step to change Klopp’s mind and only time will tell whether the English winger will get his move or not. Meanwhile, Kent was mysteriously missing in action against Chelsea’s u -23 team where he even failed to make the bench as the Merseyside club went down 3-0. The winger doesn’t have an injury problem at the moment so it might mean that the Englishman has already had some crunch talks with Liverpool regarding his future.
Why is Rangers the best bet for Kent now?
Keeping Kent at Liverpool for another year wouldn’t help either of the three parties here. The English winger made his name at Ibrox last season and the only reason why Liverpool can demand such a figure for him this season is because of his exploits for the Bears.
Klopp indicated that now it is time for Kent to settle in somewhere and that is the reason why they are not willing to send him on loan. However, they recently allowed Harry Wilson to move to Bournemouth who is pretty much at a similar stage of his career as Kent.
A few months ago Gerrard indicated that the 22-year-old winger might have to make some noise in the Liverpool camp to push for a move. The manager had said in June, ”I can assure the fans we’re doing everything we can to try to get Ryan back. The key thing that people need to understand is that Ryan has got to want this. It’s all right the fans wanting him, the staff wanting him, myself wanting him. But it’s Ryan’s decision. He’s got to want Rangers; he has got to want to come and be successful at Ibrox.”
It seems clear now that he wants a move to Rangers. Downing tools as a player is never right, but the winger clearly feels that he is hard done by Liverpool’s stance this summer. The club is trying to extract a significant fee for him which is unlikely to come now so sending him to Rangers for another season should be the right way to go.
