Bayern Munich haven’t had the best of transfer windows this summer. The German champions notably missed out in their pursuit of Leroy Sane and Callum Hudson-Odoi. They did, however, secure the services of Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard. And despite stuttering against Hertha Berlin, the Bavarians will be keen on reinstating their dominance over German football. In this article, we will figure out the strongest Bayern Munich lineup including all new signings.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence
Manuel Neuer had an injury-ravaged 2018/19 campaign. But, the German shot-stopper has started this season on a positive fashion, notably making two excellent saves against Borussia Dortmund in the Supercup. He will be given the responsibility of leading the Bayern side once again, and his performances in between the sticks will be equally important.
Joshua Kimmich has become one of the best right-backs in Europe and is a guaranteed starter in the team. David Alaba, too, is the definite option on the opposite flank. Things could get trickier in defence, however as Niko Kovac will have to choose from only two of three available centre backs in Hernandez, Pavard and Niklas Sule, with Jerome Boateng also an option.
Sule is a guaranteed first-team regular. And Hernandez, it seems, is the best choice even though he will need to settle in at his new club first.
Midfield
Thiago Alcantara has struggled in the past few matches. But, he is still the best option Bayern have in midfield. The Spaniard will operate as a number six, ahead of Javi Martinez. Leon Goretzka, meanwhile, is likely to partner him in the double-pivot, though the German will operate further down the pitch, almost as an auxiliary number ten.
The likes of Corentin Tolisso and new signing Michael Cuisance will serve as excellent backups. Renato Sanches, however, is bound to struggle with lack of game-time and a move away from Bavaria could make sense for the Portuguese international.
Attack
The attack will be led by Robert Lewandowski, who is the only experienced number nine Bayern have in their books right now following the departure of Sandro Wagner.
Serge Gnabry, on the other hand, was voted as the best player for Bayern Munich last season. He is set to occupy the right-wing role, with marquee signing Coutinho featuring on the opposite flank. The Brazilian was brought in from Barcelona on loan and will look to impress in the German top flight this season.
And finally, it is Thomas Muller, who will operate in his preferred Ramdeuter role in the number ten slot. The German international has somewhat regained his place in the starting lineup under Kovac and will be hoping to repay the Croatian’s faith.
