As reported by Goal, Real Madrid have confirmed that Brahim Diaz has suffered another injury setback. The former Manchester City star has picked up an abdominal injury, just after returning from a hamstring problem that saw him miss a chunk of the pre-season tour. It is, however, unclear as to how long the forward will remain on the sidelines.
Diaz‘s career so far
Diaz, along with Jadon Sancho, was rated as one of Manchester City’s brightest young talents. But, like the current Borussia Dortmund star, the Spaniard struggled to make his breakthrough at the Etihad. In fact, he made only five competitive appearances for the Citizens before moving to Real Madrid at the start of last year.
He joined Los Blancos for a fee of €17 million. But, it was an awkward move from the player’s perspective as his struggles with the lack of gametime continued. The 20-year-old featured in only nine appearances for Real Madrid last season, most of which came during the final phase of the campaign.
Does Diaz have any future at Real Madrid?
The arrival of Eden Hazard and the emergence of Vinicius Junior has already taken a considerable toll on the future of some of Real Madrid’s biggest stars including Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio. Diaz, therefore, is likely to struggle to get regular minutes this season, especially with Zidane now considering James Rodriguez to be a potential first-team option.
Therefore, Diaz’s apparent abdominal injury will not serve as a massive blow for Real Madrid. The former European champions have four other options in the left-wing slot – a list that includes new signings Hazard and Rodrygo as well as existing stars like Vinicius and Asensio.
Should Real Madrid offload Diaz?
Diaz’s lack of importance in the current Real Madrid squad poses the question as to whether or not the Spanish giants should offload the winger this summer. Although the Spaniard is currently injured, it is unlikely to faze any potential suitor from taking a chance at his immense potential.
However, it would perhaps be wiser if Los Merengues send him out on loan instead of permanently getting rid of the 20-year-old. Diaz could be an invaluable addition to any top half La Liga outfit and getting regular minutes in the Spanish top-flight should help him gain some much-needed experience at the highest level of football.
