In a recent interview with the Bild (translated by Manchester Evening News), Bayern Munich CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that the Bundesliga giants are not pursuing the services of Manchester City winger Leroy Sane during this summer transfer window. The German talent sustained a cruciate ligament injury in his side’s FA Community Shield win over Liverpool earlier this month which would keep him out for the major bulk of this campaign.
Rummenigge had a chat with the Bild (translated by Manchester Evening News) addressing the speculation relating to Bayern’s interest in recruiting Sane this summer and said, “No, people [we will not bid for Sane].
“Everyone knows what a cruciate ligament tear means and what the downtime is.”
Sane’s Incredible Rise At The Etihad Followed By An Early Injury Set-back
It seems like the Bavarian outfit are not willing to take a gamble on Sane as he recovers from his ACL injury. The German prospect had the best season of his playing career when he helped Man City complete a domestic treble in the previous campaign.
However, he is currently out of action for a long time, which means that his stock in European football has taken a significant dip. Sane needs to come back stronger than ever from his latest injury setback if he wants to earn a move to the Allianz Arena next summer.
But for now, the 23-year-old is a Man City player, so the recent development of Bayern dropping their interest will be music to Pep Guardiola’s ears at the Etihad Stadium. Sane scored 16 goals and grabbed 18 assists in 47 appearances for the Citizens on all fronts last season.
The Essen-born talent has an exceptional goal-scoring record for the Manchester outfit. Hence, there is no denying that Guardiola’s team will miss him until he can make a full recovery next year.
What Does The German Wing Wizard Add To Guardiola’s Side?
Sane boasts blistering pace, which allows him to make some penetrative runs down the wide areas. He can beat his marker with ease using his speed and trickery in the final third. What makes the German sensation such a potent goal-threat is his ability to score or create goals consistently at the highest level.
Bayern Munich Not Interested In Sane Anymore: Huge Boost For The Citizens?
Bayern’s decision to not pursue Sane this summer will be a massive boost for Guardiola and his chances of keeping the German speedster at the Etihad for the long-run. The German playmaker usually adds another dimension to the Manchester City attack and can be an unstoppable force when he is asked to come off the bench.
Hence, Guardiola would hope for Sane’s speedy recovery so that he can be available for the final few weeks of this 2019-20 campaign.
