According to a recent report by Goal.com, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama seems to have lost the trust of his manager Mauricio Pochettino. So it might be time for him to switch clubs in search of greener pastures. The Kenya international has not managed to earn any playing time since the start of this new season. He was an unused substitute against Aston Villa in the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign.
Wanyama’s Struggles At North London In Recent Times
Wanyama was not even a part of the Tottenham match-day squad that travelled to Manchester City last weekend. However, Pochettino’s men managed to grind out a favourable 2-2 draw which goes to show that the Kenyan midfielder is not in Pochettino’s first-team plans for this campaign.
Hence, a move away from the North London club makes sense for both the club and the player. Spurs would do well to cash in on Wanyama before the European transfer market shuts down on September 2nd. Since making a high-profile switch from Southampton in the summer of 2016, the Nairobi born prospect has made 93 appearances for Spurs thus far, scoring seven goals while grabbing one assist across all competitions.
What Does The Kenya International Offer On The Field?
Wanyama has also earned a wealth of experience in international football having represented Kenya in 52 matches while registering seven goals for them in the process.
He is currently the captain of the Kenyan national side and managed to lead his nation to a win in the group stages of the African Cup of Nations earlier this summer.
The 28-year-old is a powerhouse in midfield who can cover a lot of ground and make some crucial interceptions for his side. He is primarily a holding midfielder but can also fill in as a centre-back if needed. The Kenyan midfield ace boasts incredible strength which enables him to win a lot of 50-50 duels in the air. However, the Spurs outcast has been ravaged by injuries over the past couple of seasons which has derailed his career in English football.
Is Wanyama’s Time At Tottenham Coming To An End?
All signs point towards his time being up with Spurs, so Wanyama would be foolish to overstay his welcome at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Therefore, he needs to find a way to orchestrate a move away from England so that he can reignite his career in European football.
