French legend Emanual Petit has refused to compare Eric Cantona with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has signed for Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this summer.
Cantona was famous for his antics at the Manchester club. Cantona arrived in Manchester United for a paltry £1.2 m from Leeds United but went on to be one of the most iconic number ‘7’ to have ever played for United. He had a glorious four and a half seasons with United where he led The Red Devils To Premier League title triumph after a gap of 26 years in 1992/93.
Petit, who is an ex-Arsenal and Chelsea player said, “When people say Ibrahimovic is like Cantona … he’s not at all, not at all, at all. Canto’, if he wanted to kick you in the head, he would do it. If he lost it, he would do it.”
Ibrahimovic scored on his debut for United and has scored a number of goals in the initial few games but has failed to find the target for the last couple of matches.
“Cantona was strong in the face of strong opponents, he stood up to them. Ibra, when you start to get at him in a match — I’ve seen the batterings he’s taken in England — even if he replies sometimes … yes, he has character and personality, but don’t say ‘Ibra’ is like ‘Canto’. He isn’t at all,” Petit said.
