Rangers will be once again at home and this time against Danish opponents FC Midtjylland in the second leg of the third round of the Europa League qualifiers. Gerrard’s men are coming on the back of a resounding 6-1 win against Hibernian at Ibrox. They should be able to get the job done at home against Midtjylland barring any significant disasters as they have a 4-2 lead.
What would impress Gerrard is that his side is not relying on just one or two players to create goal-scoring opportunities this season. However, it would be interesting to see what kind of approach the manager takes in this game as the team already has a two goal advantage.
Team News: There are no major injury concerns for Gerrard. Matt Polster, Jamie Murphy, Jake Hastie and Eros Grezda aren’t included in the Europa League squad.
Rangers Predicted Lineup Vs Midtjylland
Formation (4-3-3)
Defence
Allan McGregor is a nailed-on starter in goal for the Gers. Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson should form the centre back partnership in defence. However, don’t be surprised if Gerrard decides to give George Edmundson a go in this game out of nowhere.
James Tavernier is a nailed-on starter down the right flank. Jon Flanagan has been preferred over Andy Halliday and Borna Barisic in the last few games in the left-back spot. The Englishman might not be a flashy option, but he is a no-nonsense defender. With Rangers already being 4-2 up, we expect Gerrard to put his trust in Flanagan once again.
Midfield
Ryan Jack has proven in the last few games that he is more than a midfield disruptor as he has carried the ball well and has linked up play smartly. He should start in the defensive midfield role. Joe Aribo has earned major plaudits ever since his signing, and he has cemented his place in midfield. The other midfield spot could go to Glen Kamara.
Attack
Scott Arfield didn’t play a single minute against the Hibs, and it seemed to us that Gerrard was keeping him fresh for this game. Arfield will start from the right, but he will often drift inside and play in central areas as an attacking midfielder. Tavernier will primarily provide the width on the right.
Jordan Jones has been eye-catching in the last few games, and he should get the nod to start on the left flank. The winger created a lot of trouble to Midtjylland in the first game and Gerrard would expect more of the same from him. Alfredo Morelos should be the preferred striker for this clash.
