Leeds United were linked with a move for Inter Milan’s talented striker Facundo Colidio in the summer. However, the move didn’t transpire, and the Whites went on to sign Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah on loan. We think that the Whites might have considered trying their luck in January again for the Argentine forward as the club parted ways with Kemar Roofe this summer.
However, that is unlikely going to be the case anymore as Colidio is close to moving (Gianluca Di Marzio) to Belgian outfit Sint Truiden on loan for the season. Therefore a January revisit for the 19-year-old is unlikely to happen anymore.
The forward is an u-20 Argentine international, and he joined Inter Milan from Boca Juniors. Colidio hasn’t made an impact at the senior level, but he has caught the eye at the youth level for Milan and his national team. The forward managed five goals and one assist in five UEFA Youth League appearances last season.
A blow for Leeds United?
The Whites have three strikers for the season, so we don’t really think that Colidio moving to Belgium is a blow to United in terms of future transfer plans. Moreover, Bielsa is a kind of manager who will look to solve problems internally first if there is an injury crisis and transfers are probably his last resort to bolster his squad.
The club didn’t sign anyone apart from Kiko Casilla in January last season. That was a necessary signing as Jamal Blackman was out for the rest of the season due to injury. Thus, Bielsa clearly likes to work with what he already has, and if required, he would instead get players from the u-23 team to the senior squad.
Leeds United woes in front of goal
United play some of the best brand of football at the Championship level, but their sorry finishing was once again evident in the recent game against Nottingham Forest where they should have won. Patrick Bamford needs four-five clear cut chances to deliver one goal, and that has seemingly cost them a lot since the last season.
Currently, Tyler Roberts is also out with an injury, and it is yet not clear when he would become available. Eddie Nketiah might need some time to get going, but a lot will be resting on his young shoulders this season. Colidio might have added some more edge and depth to the squad in January, but he wasn’t going to be a game-changing signing given that he is yet to play at the senior level.
