Tottenham Hotspur made a nervy start to the new Premier League season when they trailed Aston Villa for a long time before pulling off a late comeback in front of their home supporters inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend. Spurs won the match with a 3-1 scoreline, but it was far from convincing as they had a few players out on Saturday evening.
Mauricio Pochettino had a successful summer in terms of player recruitment as he splashed the cash on Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke, who was loaned back to Leeds United to continue with his development.
The fact that Christian Eriksen has still not left the club suggests that he might end up staying at North London beyond this summer. Overall, it seems like Pochettino has a strong squad to help him in his quest to win some silverware with Spurs this season. The Argentine boss will likely opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation to accomodate all the new players in his first-team.
Strongest 4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Lineup For The New Season
Defence
Hugo Lloris will be the undisputed number one goalkeeper at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner will have the duo of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen operating ahead of him at the heart of the Spurs backline.
Kyle Walker-Peters should get the nod ahead of Serge Aurier for the right-back berth in Pochettino’s first-team. Tottenham’s new summer signing, Ryan Sessegnon might establish himself as Spurs’ first-choice left-back despite facing stiff competition from Danny Rose.
Midfield
Pochettino will rely on his new recruits, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso to anchor the midfield while the talented attacking trio of Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura operate ahead of them as part of the Tottenham attack.
A lot will be expected of their new signing, Lo Celso who scored 16 goals and created six assists for Real Betis last season. The Argentine playmaker will be desperate to establish himself as a regular starter under Pochettino’s tutelage.
Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Dele Alli and Erik Lamela are all expected to be part of Pochettino’s match-day squads for the 2019-20 campaign.
Attack
Harry Kane will lead the line for the North London outfit up top. The English striker will need to stay fit for the major bulk of this campaign if Spurs are to challenge for silverware. Both Son and Moura will play as the back-ups for Kane after they formed a fruitful partnership towards the latter stages of the 2018-19 season.
