Chelsea will take on Liverpool at the BJK Vodafone Park in Istanbul looking to bounce back from their humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United. The Pensioners will travel to Turkey on Wednesday hoping to right some wrongs versus the reigning European champions. Even though the Reds would be the favourite to emerge victorious in midweek, Frank Lampard might have a trick or two up his sleeve to cause some problems for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
The West London outfit might lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation with both Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic expected to start against Liverpool later this week.
4-2-3-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Kepa Arrizabalaga will lineup as Chelsea’s first-choice goalie on Wednesday night despite conceding four goals against the Red Devils at Old Trafford last weekend. The centre-back pair of Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma will operate at the heart of Lampard’s backline as they look to put in a much-improved defensive display at the back versus the Reds of Merseyside. Cesar Azpilicueta will assume the duties of a right-back while Emerson Palmieri tries to make an impact down the left flank.
Antonio Rudiger is a slight doubt for this European encounter and will be in a race against time to be fit for this clash. Marcos Alonso might be a part of Lampard’s bench once again on Wednesday night.
Midfield
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are expected to play as the anchormen at the centre of the pitch as they try to retain the ball and dictate play in the opposition half. The talented trio of Christian Pulisic, Ross Barkley and Pedro might operate just ahead of them as they look to create some decent opportunities going forward.
Pulisic will be desperate to do well for his new employers. He could be Chelsea’s best weapon to hurt the Liverpool defence away at Istanbul in midweek.
Attack
Olivier Giroud will lead the line for the Pensioners up top. The Frenchman didn’t get a start against Man United on Sunday so he will be desperate to prove his worth for Chelsea’s first-team by putting in a goal-scoring display versus Liverpool. Tammy Abraham will be available on Lampard’s bench and might get a chance to influence the game if required.
