Everton travelled to Selhurst Park to face off against Crystal Palace earlier today hoping to claim all three points from their opening match of this Premier League campaign. The Toffees battled hard during the first half but did not manage to break down the Eagles defence.
The Merseyside outfit pushed on in search of a winning goal in the second half but suffered a setback in the 76th minute when Morgan Schneiderlin was given his marching orders for a high challenge on Palace’s Luka Milivojević. Marco Silva’s men hung on to earn a hard-fought point from the game this weekend after both teams finished with a 0-0 scoreline at the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against the Eagles.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 8/10
The English keeper made a couple of world-class saves to keep Everton in the game. He secured a well-deserved clean sheet away at Selhurst Park which would please Marco Silva.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 7/10
He had a terrific first half for the Toffees. However, his performance levels went down a notch in the second half. Coleman needs to find a way to be more productive in the opposition half.
CB: Michael Keane – 7/10
The Everton defensive ace commanded his defence with authority and conviction. He formed a solid partnership with his centre-back partner, Mina and won a lot of aerial duels during the match.
CB: Yerry Mina – 8.5/10
The Colombia international put in his best performance in an Everton shirt. He kept calm when under pressure from the opposition attackers and secured a hard-fought clean sheet at the back for the Merseyside outfit.
LB: Lucas Digne – 6/10
The former Paris Saint-Germain full-back was defensively sound but lacked the cutting edge going forward.
CM: Morgan Schneiderlin – 5/10
He put in a dominant display in midfield until he was sent off for the final quarter of the match.
CM: André Gomes – 5/10
He struggled to get things moving in midfield and failed to make a positive impact in the game. Gomes went off injured just before half-time.
RM: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian winger worked his socks off but lacked the quality needed to cut open the Palace defence in the offensive end of the field.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 5/10
The Icelandic midfielder got a golden opportunity to score in the first half, but he failed to convert his chance. Otherwise, he was ineffective as the Eagles defenders coped with his threat well inside their own half.
LM: Bernard – 6/10
The Brazilian playmaker worked hard but was not at his best while operating down the left flank.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6/10
He ran the channels effectively and worked his socks off for his teammates. However, he failed to score against Palace today which would disappoint him.
Substitutes:
CM: Jean-Philippe Gbamin – 5/10
The summer arrival made a couple of poor mistakes in the second half. However, he did show a few glimpses of his brilliance going forward.
ST: Moise Kean – 5/10
He struggled to get into the game after Schneiderlin’s red card as he was left isolated in the Palace half.
CM: Tom Davies – 6/10
The youngster did enough to make sure that the Eagles did not net a late winner in front of their home supporters.
