Arsenal have enjoyed a terrific end to their summer transfer business after recruiting Kieran Tierney from Celtic and David Luiz from Chelsea on deadline day. The Gunners have also managed to sign Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and Nicolas Pepe from LOSC Lille earlier this summer.
The UEFA Europa League finalists are set to take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the opening weekend of this Premier League season. Let’s take a look at the strongest possible lineup that Unai Emery can choose to play on most matchdays in the upcoming 2019-20 campaign.
4-2-3-1 Strongest Arsenal Lineup For The 2019-20 Premier League Season
Defence
Bernd Leno will be the undisputed number one keeper at the Emirates Stadium this season after being rotated with Petr Cech in the previous campaign. The German keeper will have the duo of David Luiz and Sokratis Papastathopoulos playing ahead of him at the heart of Emery’s backline.
Hector Bellerin should keep his first-team place while he looks to use his pace as the right-back. Arsenal’s new summer recruit, Kieran Tierney will get the nod to start in the left-back position. However, he will face stiff competition from Sead Kolašinac for a starting berth at North London.
Midfield
Emery will rely on Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira to anchor the midfield while the talented attacking trio of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe operate ahead of them as part of the Gunners attack.
A lot will be expected of their new signing, Pepe who scored 22 goals and grabbed 11 assists in the Ligue 1 last season. Ceballos will also be desperate to establish himself as a regular starter under Emery’s tutelage. The Spaniard might be preferred ahead of Mesut Ozil to operate in a box to box role in midfield.
Matteo Guendouzi will be on standby if either Xhaka or Torreira is not available for selection.
Attack
Alexandre Lacazette will lead the line for the Gunners up top. The Frenchman will get help from Aubameyang and Pepe, but he needs to make a good start to this season so that he has the confidence to score goals consistently at the highest level.
