Hull City will be looking to continue their newly found form in midweek’s EFL Cup match after what could be said has been a nightmarish start to the season. After 9 games, the Tigers sit in the bottom half of the table with just 7 points from 9 games at the 18 position. Their next game is away at Watford, which interestingly will be the first game these two teams will play in the top-flight English football.
Hull could gather only 4 points from 4 away games this season. In their last meeting back in 2013, Watford had won 1-0. Hull City have lost their last 5 Premier league games in a row and they have not lost six successive Premier leagues last in 2009.
Watford, on the other hand, have started their campaign well with 12 points from 9 games and sitting in the 9th position. They have won 3, lost 3 and drawn 3.
Defence
After getting a rest in the midweek match, where Eldin Jakupovic started between the posts, we expect David Marshall to return in goal again. The Scottish has been decent in that position and the manager will count on him again. Hull already have the experienced Allan McGregor out with injury.
Hull also have Moses Odubajo and Alex Bruce out with injury. David Meyler started from the bench in the midweek game against Bristol City and we expect him to continue in the right-back position ahead of Ahmed Elmohamady, who started in right midfield this past midweek.
Michael Dawson will look to continue his scoring form after his midweek goal in the left defensive position. Curtis Davies has been one of the standout defenders in the Premier League this season statistically. Though he played in the midweek cup game, we expect him to start at centre back. Although Harry Maguire did well in his right back position in the midweek, Jake Livermore is likely to play in an unnatural centre-back role.
