Jurgen Klopp made it quite evident that Liverpool wants to sell Ryan Kent permanently this summer instead of sending him again on a loan move. However, latest reports from the Express claims that Liverpool’s tune might change once the English transfer window closes on Thursday. Liverpool are said to be in a race against time to find a permanent suitor for the winger, and that could turn out to be fruitful for Rangers.
What can work for Rangers?
Championship outfit Leeds United who started the season brightly with a 3-1 win over Bristol City, are said to be interested in the winger. However, not being able to sign the player on loan is a problem for them as well. But things could change as Leeds United are close to selling their striker Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht for £7m which could give them the required funds.
However, if that happens, then one would expect them to go for an outright striker instead of winger to replace Roofe. So as things stand, we think that Rangers are still in with a shout for Ryan Kent once the 8th of August passes by.
Gerrard should be more keen to add a winger now after Daniel Candeias departed from the club. The likes of Glenn Middleton and Eros Grezda are close to an exit so Rangers can have a place for Kent in the roster. In fact, the manager has been keen on Kent even when Candeias and others remained at the club.
Rangers can only afford Kent for a permanent transfer if Alfredo Morelos is sold in this transfer window. That could also be a possibility as Morelos has attracted interest from various quarters. But no formal bid has been made for the Colombian. Gerrard can do his business until the second of September and this extra time for the Gers is probably what’s keeping Rangers’ hope of signing Kent alive.
The winger hasn’t attracted any interest outside of the UK so far. Thus, as of now, it seems unlikely that clubs from other countries would come in for him as they too have the privilege of signing players until September.
Kent will provide with x-factor and will bring a genuine goal threat at Ibrox. The English winger started slowly last season but improved as he settled in at the club. The Liverpool man has talked previously about how he enjoyed his time in Glasgow, and if presented with an opportunity, he will likely go on loan once again. It’s time for Rangers fans to keep their fingers crossed until Thursday to see whether they stand a chance to land Kent or not.
