According to the update from Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Leeds United are interested in signing Argentina’s u-20 international Facundo Colidio. The 19-year-old plies his trade for Italian heavyweights Inter Milan and is a striker by trade. The forward is yet to make his senior team debut.
The striker moved to Milan from Argentina heavyweights Boca Juniors. Colidio is yet to contribute at the senior level, but his performances at the youth level have been eye-catching. The youngster scored five goals and provided with one assist in 5 UEFA Youth League appearances.
Does Leeds United need a striker?
According to Phil Hay, the Whites have agreed to sell Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht who is set to have a medical today. Roofe was United’s top scorer last season, and that would leave them short in the forward department. Patrick Bamford was United’s big-money signing from last year, but he failed to come up with the performances which were expected of him. It remains to be seen how he will perform this season.
Leeds United will need to replace Roofe now that he has moved away this summer as Bamford and Tyler Roberts would be the only two strike options available.
What can Colidio bring at Elland Road?
Colidio is known for his acceleration and finishing skills. He is a live wire in and around the box, and his playing style is somewhat similar to his fellow countryman Mauro Icardi. The striker’s work rate is probably one of the primary reasons why the Whites are considering signing him as a replacement for Roofe.
Can Colidio be a good bet?
It is tough to say now how the player would go about his business as he is yet to make senior team appearances. One would have expected Bielsa and the club to find a proven striker to replace someone like Roofe. The Argentine striker is still on a long term contract at Inter Milan and is rated highly so we think that Colidio wouldn’t come in cheap.
However, it’s clear that Bielsa has a new way of working, and Victor Orta has also looked keen on these underrated signings in the past few years. Bielsa is likely to have more knowledge about the Argentine market. If he feels that the player would be a success, then one should probably trust the veteran manager on this. Hopefully, from United’s point of view, the youngster would be able to do a job when called upon.
