According to a recent report by the Sun, Liverpool are looking to make a late move to acquire the signature of FC Girondins Bordeaux wide player Francois Kamano before next week’s transfer deadline. The same source has stated that the Reds are eyeing a £20m deal for the Guinean prospect in this off-season.
Kamano’s Rich Vein Of Form In The Ligue 1
The 23-year-old started as a youth player at Satellite FC before changing sceneries to play in France for SC Bastia back in 2014. He came through their youth system before going on to break out as a senior-level starter at the Stade Armand Cesari. The Guinea international opted to join Bordeaux in the summer of 2016 and has since made a name for himself at the Ligue 1 club.
Kamano enjoyed a fruitful season in the French top-flight after he put in a series of match-winning displays under the expert guidance of Ricardo Gomes in the previous campaign. The Conakry-born prospect made 51 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit in the last term, finding the back of the net on 13 occasions while providing four assists on all fronts.
He has also represented Guinea in 23 international matches and has scored five goals for his country in the process. At 23, Kamano is about to go into the best years of his football career which the Merseyside giants could look to benefit from over the next few campaigns.
What Will The Bordeaux Star Add To Klopp’s Side?
Kamano is quick and agile enough to make some penetrative dribbles down the left-wing. He can also be a potent goal-getter in the final third but needs to work on his creative skills as evidenced by his low tally of four assists last season. The Guinean winger averaged 0.9 key passes per game in the top tier of France. However, he has managed to average 2.2 shots per match, which explains how he registered 13 goals for Bordeaux in the previous term (stats via whoscored).
The addition of a wide player of Kamano’s pace and goal-scoring ability will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options at Anfield next season. He could prove to be an ideal back-up to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at the Merseyside club. The Guinean’s acquisition will help Liverpool compete across all competitions in the upcoming campaign.
However, one can argue whether Kamano has what it takes to quickly adapt to life in England and cope with the physical toll of Premier League football.
