Rangers have seemingly done well in the ongoing transfer market as they recruited some crucial players. They have been dealt a blow with the Ryan Kent situation, but apart from that, Steven Gerrard has got his job done off the pitch. One target which Rangers were linked (Belfast Telegraph) with a few weeks ago was Linfield’s talented young forward Charlie Allen.
Celtic were also said to be interested in him along with a host of English clubs. However, it seems like Celtic have made their move as latest reports from the Scotsman reveals that the Bhoys have offered him a trial and are considering signing him.
Tottenham Hotspur too recently offered the 15-year-old a trial, but Celtic are now looking to steal a march over them. In the past, Allen has been linked with some English heavyweights like Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Leicester City.
Allen has already broken through to the Linfield senior team and is a u-17 Northern Ireland international. Linfield has labelled him as one of the brightest prospects to ever come from Northern Ireland. Club’s chairman Roy McGivern went on to say, ”Such is Charlie’s talent, he’s good enough to go across the water in the future and have his pick of clubs.”
It is yet not clear how keen Rangers are in getting a deal done for this prodigal forward. However, it is going to be some feat if the Gers manage to land this talent with the kind of clubs circling him.
What is Allen known for?
The 15-year-old is a striker who can slot in as an attacking midfielder as well. Allen is known to be a lethal finisher and a live wire in and around the opposition’s penalty area. His work rate is also something which makes him stand out. We haven’t seen him play, but the way people close to the club are prepping him up makes him seem like an exceptional talent. Moreover, the powerhouse clubs which are chasing him is also a testament to the young boy’s ability.
What should Gerrard do?
Allen is likely being seen as a future prospect and he will have to sweat it out in the youth and reserve squad first before coming close to first-team football. The youngster can probably get an easier path to first-team football at Rangers so that could go their way in terms of luring the forward.
Moreover, the attraction of working under an iconic player like Gerrard cannot be ignored. However, as things stand, it seems unlikely that Rangers will get their man. Nevertheless, the manager should step up his pursuit, and try their luck in landing the youngster.
