According to the recent claims made by two renowned Brazilian journalists, Marcelo Bechler and Bruno Formiga, Everton have agreed on a €40m fee to bring Flamengo attacking midfielder Reinier Jesus to Merseyside (via Esporte Interativo, translated by Sports Witness). However, the same source has also revealed that the Brazilian rising star will only be eligible to join Everton in January when he turns 18.
The Rapid Rise Of Reinier Jesus In Brazilian Football
The South American starlet has a very promising future and will be a player to watch out for, so the Toffees might benefit from recruiting him in January. Marco Silva has some talented Brazilians in his squad which include the likes of Richarlison and Bernard. Therefore, the 17-year-old shouldn’t face too many problems while adapting to life at Merseyside if he can agree on terms with the Toffees.
Both Richarlison and Bernard have been great success stories at Goodison Park thus far, which serves as further proof that the Brazilian players tend to do well in the Premier League. Therefore, it makes sense for Marco Silva to splash the cash in bringing the Flamengo starlet to Merseyside soon.
The Brasilia-born prospect has still not made a first-team appearance in the Brazilian Serie A which suggests that he would need time to develop before he can play for Everton at the highest level. Reinier is primarily an attacking midfielder who enjoys the freedom of operating in the number 10 position. He has decent pace under his belt and can make some clever runs behind the opposition backline.
Is Reinier A Prospect For The Future?
The Brazilian teenager is currently an integral member of the Brazilian Under-17 team, having made nine appearances for them while scoring five goals in the process.
There is no doubt that Reinier needs more time to develop his skills before he is ready to feature in the English top-flight. Joining Everton’s Academy could help him improve at a rapid pace as he will be able to train with more proven players around him.
The Toffees should undeniably try and get the deal done for Reinier as he is a player worth signing. The Brazilian youngster is a star in the making who could turn out to be an excellent asset for Silva.
