Liverpool will face off against Olympique Lyonnais at the Stade de Geneve today evening looking to bounce back from their 3-0 pre-season loss against Napoli. The Reds are in dire need of a positive result after a poor pre-season so far. Jurgen Klopp would be anxious to get his players ready in time for the start of the new Premier League campaign next week.
The German manager might opt for a 4-3-3 formation and name Alisson Becker to start in between the sticks against Lyon this evening. Both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are expected to feature as substitutes later in the match.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Olympique Lyonnais
Defence
Alisson Becker has returned to Liverpool after winning the 2019 Copa America with Brazil earlier this month. The Brazilian goalie should feature in goal for the Reds with Simon Mignolet playing second-fiddle on Klopp’s bench.
The centre-half duo of Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk should lineup together once again at the heart of the Liverpool defence as they look to put in a much-improved defensive shift at the back. The Merseyside outfit shipped in three goals against Napoli last weekend which won’t please Klopp.
Thus, we can expect an improved display from the Liverpool centre-halves later this evening. Trent Alexander-Arnold will assume the duties of a right-back as he looks to whip in some dangerous crosses into the Lyon penalty box from the right flank. Andrew Robertson will look to do the same on the other side as well while operating as a left-back.
Midfield
Klopp might go with the same midfield three that started against Napoli on Sunday. The tireless trio of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and James Milner are expected to start versus Lyon. All three players would need to begin the match well and dictate proceedings from the get-go if they are to establish Liverpool’s dominance in midfield.
With the start of the Premier League less than two weeks away, Klopp needs his players to build some confidence if they want to be ready on time to see off Norwich City’s challenge at Anfield next week.
Attack
The front three of Georginio Wijnaldum, Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain might get the nod to start against Lyon in midweek. Both Origi and Wijnaldum has been amongst the goals for Liverpool in pre-season. Maybe, this match could serve as an ideal opportunity for Oxlade-Chamberlain to stake his claim for a permanent starting berth in Klopp’s first XI.
