According to a recent report by A Bola (via the Metro), Manchester United are set to make their first offer for Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes via the player’s agent, Miguel Pinho. The same source has stated that Pinho will present the Red Devils’ offer to the Portuguese giants on Tuesday with the hope of finalising a move before the transfer window closes next month.
Bruno Fernandes: A Portuguese Superstar In The Making?
The 24-year-old enjoyed a brilliant campaign in the Liga NOS last season as he made a positive impact on numerous occasions for Sporting across all competitions. Fernandes put in a man of the match-winning performance against Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at the Yankee Stadium last week which has raised his stock even further in the European transfer market.
The Portugal international scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists in 53 appearances for the Lisbon side on all fronts in the previous campaign. His remarkable goal-scoring contributions didn’t go unnoticed as Fernandes ended up being named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year earlier this summer.
The Maia-born talent has represented Portugal in 12 international matches and has registered one goal for his country so far. He primarily plays as an attacking midfielder but can also assume the role of a box to box midfielder or lead the line as a striker up top.
Fernandes was also an integral member of the Portugal side that won the UEFA Nations League last month when they beat the Netherlands with a 1-0 scoreline in the final.
What Will The Portuguese Prospect Add To Solskjaer’s Team?
The Portuguese midfielder will not only bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options significantly at the Theatre of Dreams but will also add plenty of goals and assists to the Man United midfield. The Sporting CP skipper is a lethal presence in the opposition half as he can find the back of the net consistently at the highest level.
He is a pure striker of the ball and can beat a keeper with the power and precision of his shots. The Portugal sensation tends to come alive in the final third and is always looking to create some decent chances for himself or his teammates around him. The Liga NOS playmaker boasts incredible vision which enables him to play a killer pass in the offensive end of the field.
Fernandes is always willing to work hard for his side and doesn’t mind putting in a tireless shift inside his own half if needed. However, there is a slight concern over whether he would be able to cope with the physical toll of English top-flight football if Solskjaer can bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
