According to a recent update made by Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira on Twitter, Arsenal are in talks with Juventus playmaker Sami Khedira ahead of a potential move during this summer transfer window. The same source has also claimed that the Gunners have offered Khedira a two-year contract worth €4m a year which is €2m less from what he earns at Juventus at this moment.
Khedira’s Bit Part Role For Juventus Last Season
The German midfielder was a sporadic option at the Turin club in the previous campaign. However, to his credit, the 32-year-old still managed to put in a couple of memorable performances for the Italian champions last season.
Khedira featured in 17 matches for Juve in the last term, finding the back of the net on two occasions across all competitions. The former Stuttgart youth player has also represented Germany in 77 international matches and has scored seven goals for his nation thus far. He was also an integral member of the German national team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The ex-Real Madrid playmaker is more of a defensive midfielder rather than an attacking force at this stage of his playing career. At 32, Khedira still has a few years left in his locker to compete at the highest level which the Gunners could look to benefit from over the next few seasons.
What Does The German Midfield Ace Offer On The Pitch?
Khedira can pass the ball accurately from midfield and can also provide an added layer of protection to the backline. He is primarily a holding midfielder who can distribute the ball well and create chances for his teammates in the opposition half.
The acquisition of a midfielder of Khedira’s vast experience will undoubtedly add a bit of calmness to the Gunners midfield which has often looked a bit frantic in the previous campaign. The German world champion can still make some crucial interceptions for his side and is physically dominant due to his incredible upper-body strength.
Will Khedira Be A Good Choice For The Gunners?
Khedira might be a good mentor to some Unai Emery’s young midfielders such as Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Joe Willock. The veteran midfielder will also add more competition for Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos and Mohamed Elneny for midfield spot in Emery’s starting XI. Hence, he could turn out to be a clever signing for the North London outfit if they can orchestrate a move to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
