Rangers were recently dealt with a big blow when Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp claimed that they are not looking to send Ryan Kent on loan this summer. Gerrard is known to be very keen on the winger after his stellar performances last season. However, it seems like Liverpool will only allow Kent to move away permanently this summer.
However, reports from Leeds Live suggest that Kent’s camp is currently sceptical that Liverpool would be able to find a permanent deal for him in this window. Various reports did the round that the Merseyside club would demand somewhere around £12m. Leeds United are said to be interested, but they stand no chance of signing him permanently with that asking price.
Where Rangers have an edge?
Apart from the Whites and Rangers, no other team have really shown a keen interest in the winger. Therefore as things stand, Liverpool might have to anyway send him away on loan later on in the transfer market. What gives Gerrard and Co further edge is the fact that the Scottish transfer window is going to close in September.
The English transfer window is closing on the 8th of August. That would mean that if Liverpool aren’t able to find a suitor for Kent by that time, then Rangers might be the only club interested in him. There is still no interest in Kent from other leagues, so that is going to turn out to be a big advantage for the Bears.
All Rangers need to do now is keep their fingers crossed until the 8th of August and hope that no Premier League club jumps in the race for him. We think that Championship clubs are unlikely to spend that kind of money even if they were to be interested.
Liverpool can still turn out to be the villains if they decide to keep him at the club. However, the winger would find it hard to get regular game time at the Merseyside club once Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah come back. The only real game time Kent might get is during the various cup competitions.
Kent had earlier iterated that he wants to settle down at a club. However, Rangers are unlikely to sign him on a permanent transfer even in the future. Therefore as things stand, it’s tough to gauge what would happen. But the fact that the player’s camp believes that Kent is unlikely to get a permanent transfer this summer means that a loan move remains a possibility even though Klopp completely shunned those talks earlier.
