According to the latest reports from Gazette Live, Leeds United are still said to be keen on Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe. Middlesbrough, West Brom and Wigan are also said to be in the race with the Whites. The winger is believed to be willing to move away after Portsmouth failed to move up to the Championship.
Jackett on Lowe’s future
The Whites have been linked with the English winger for quite some time, but nothing has materialised just yet. Portsmouth boss Jackett is also aware that his star man could move away from the club this summer. He said, ”We have to wait and see (On Lowe’s future). It’s really hard to call. We definitely do (want it sorting), but it’s the buying club who dictates that really and whether they or other clubs come in with offers over the next two weeks.”
Wigan had put in a bid of £2.6m which was rejected. The Whites are yet to make a concrete approach, but we think that they should move in for him.
Why Bielsa needs Lowe?
The club brought in the likes of Helder Costa and Jack Harrison in this window. United are also said to be keen on Liverpool’s Ryan Kent, but Klopp recently revealed (Liverpool Echo) that he is not going to send the Englishman on loan. With Liverpool valuing Kent at £12m, we don’t see the Whites spending that much. Therefore they might have to look for a much cheaper alternative to Kent, and that is where someone like Lowe can come in.
What will Lowe bring to the table?
The 25-year-old fired in 17 goals last season playing as a right-winger, and he was one of the first names on the team sheet for the Pompey. Lowe is a busy player as he always looks to make things happen when he is on the ball. He is direct in his approach and is willing to take on defenders in one on one situation.
The winger can trouble the opposition with his pace and dribbling skills. His goal-scoring exploits from last season suggest that he can keep his composure in and around the box to finish off moves.
That is where the Whites struggled last season as the likes of Jack Harrison, Ezgjan Alioski, Samuel Saiz and Patrick Bamford were miserable in front of goal as they failed to put away their chances. United have Helder Costa for the right flank, but Lowe can fit in as a left-winger as well. After his performance for Portsmouth last season, we think that he can be an upgrade over Harrison.
