According to a recent report by the Sun, West Ham United are interested in securing the services of the Togolese free agent Emmanuel Adebayor during this summer transfer period. However, the same source has revealed that the Hammers will face stiff competition from Sheffield United and Watford in pursuit of the former Tottenham Hotspur striker in this off-season.
The Sun has also claimed that the Togolese centre-forward fancies a move to London after his previous spells at Arsenal and Spurs. Hence, the East London outfit could be in an ideal position to land the 35-year-old striker this summer.
Emmanuel Adebayor’s Fruitful Spell In Turkey
Adebayor has a wealth of experience in English football, but he is currently in the twilight years of his playing career and might not have enough to offer on the field. He was released by the Turkish club, Basaksehir earlier this summer after he spent two seasons at Istanbul.
The ex-Manchester City forward featured in a total of 76 matches for his previous employers, scoring 28 goals while grabbing eight assists across all competitions. Adebayor is also a legend in African football having made 66 appearances for Togo at the international level while registering 29 goals for his nation in the process.

Adebayor can be an unforgiving presence inside the opposition penalty area as he is still a lethal finisher and knows what it takes to find the back of the net. Even though the veteran striker has lost a yard of pace in recent years, he can still run with the ball without losing possession and can cause a lot of problems for the opposing defenders in the final third.

However, the 35-year-old is a shadow of his former self, which explains why he is currently available as a free agent. If Pellegrini is successful in acquiring Adebayor before the start of the new campaign, then it could prove to be another free-agent gamble gone wrong for him following Samir Nasri’s underwhelming spell at the London Stadium last season.
It would be wise for the Hammers to go for prolific strikers who are at the prime if they plan to compete on all fronts in the coming years. Adebayor does not fit the bill on all fronts, and so West Ham would be better off not signing him this summer.
