Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has refused to be panic stricken as his side were knocked out from EFL Cup by Manchester United as the Red Devils had a very satisfying 1-0 win over their cross town rivals.
City have now gone six matches without a win since their 3-3 draw with Celtic. Juan Mata scored the solitary goal the match as City Crashed out of the EFL Cup. Guardiola handed Pablo Maffeo and Aleix Garcia a start while Mourinho decided to field a side which was quite strong.
Sergio Aguero was again dropped by the Spaniard as Kelechi Iheanacho started up front. City came into the game with a 1-1 draw with Southampton while United were thrashed by Chelsea 4-0.
Guardiola praised his young players “I am so proud of our performance, congratulations to United, but I am so proud of our young players and how we played.
“We had our chances, two or three on the counter… At that level, it’s when you are more clinical with the last pass, but it’s always difficult against United. We competed well.”
Guardiola hailed Maffeo who gave a pretty good performance, ” They did a good job, (Pablo) Maffeo was amazing, fighting with (Marcus) Rashford and (Paul) Pogba and he won almost all the duels. I am so proud, we are happy.”
