In an interview with talkSPORT 2 on Tuesday, Tottenham Hotspur legend Clive Allen pleaded Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale to seal a return back to North London when he said,
“I think it has all been handled pretty horrifically.
“So much has been made public about the fall out with Zidane. I think Real Madrid have handled in very poorly.
“I don’t think he should be going to China.
“I think there are so many possible suitors in European football and even Premier League football – I’d love to see him come back to the Premier League.
“I sat down with him and his family when he came to Spurs many years ago, and I said Spurs was the platform for him to go on and do anything he wanted, to fulfil his dreams. He bought into that and he came to Spurs.
“I’d say the exact same thing today. This is not the same club he joined those years aback, Tottenham Hotspur are up among the top teams in European football.
“Come back to Tottenham, Gareth.
“That’s my message to him, absolutely.”
Bale’s Underwhelming Yet Successful Spell At The Spanish Capital
The Welsh playmaker had struggled to put in a consistent run of displays for Los Blancos last season. Even though he has won a lot of trophies at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Bale has been plagued with injuries since moving to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window of 2013.
The former Southampton starlet has not been able to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure last summer. Bale could only score 14 goals and provide six assists in 42 appearances for the Galacticos in the previous term. He has lost the confidence of his manager Zinedine Zidane and needs to switch clubs soon if he wants to reignite his career in the coming years.
Spurs should consider the possibility of recruiting Bale before the start of the new campaign. Mauricio Pochettino needs to sign a few world-class players if his side are to challenge for the Premier League title next season. The fact that Bale already knows the North London club from the inside out will only help Spurs’ cause as he won’t need time to settle into life in English football.
What Will The Welsh Talent Add To Pochettino’s Side?
Bale can run with the ball at a blistering speed and can make some penetrative dribbles on the wide areas. He can also play a decisive pass in the final third and is a consistent goal-scorer when he gets a regular run of games under his belt. However, injuries have ravaged his career so far, which makes him a gamble for any of his potential suitors.
Acquiring Bale: Wise Move For Pochettino?
Furthermore, he will demand a lot of money which will act as kryptonite for Daniel Levy, who is not fond of signing players on high wages. Therefore, Tottenham should only consider recruiting Bale if the player is prepared to take a big pay-cut. Otherwise, it won’t be wise for them to ‘break the bank’ to sign the injury-prone Welshman in this off-season.
