However, the same source has also claimed that the Reds will face stiff competition from Aston Villa in pursuit of the Clarets keeper this summer.

The Reds have only had their new ”signing” Andy Lonergan and Simon Mignolet available during pre-season thus far. Both keepers have made some world-class saves at the back. However, Mignolet made a devastating error against Sporting CP when his blunder gave the Portuguese outfit the lead on Wednesday evening.
Without Alisson Becker, the Merseyside outfit has looked shaky at the back, shipping in eight goals in five pre-season matches thus far. Thus, bringing in a worthy back-up for the Brazilian goalie could help Jurgen Klopp’s team compete on all fronts next season.
Heaton could be an ideal number 2 to Alisson at Anfield as he has already proven his worth in the Premier League over the past few seasons. He is a dominant presence in between the sticks and is consistent with his performances on the pitch. The 33-year-old made 22 appearances for the Clarets last season and conceded 33 goals.
