According to a recent report by the Sun, Manchester United will offer their French midfield star Paul Pogba a fresh, long-term contract so that they can retain his services beyond this summer. The France international has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford in this off-season with both Real Madrid and Juventus interested in recruiting him (via the Sun).
Pogba has impressed a lot of people with his professionalism and positive attitude during Man United’ pre-season tour of Australia and Asia. He was one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s best players from the last campaign. Hence, it is no surprise that the Red Devils are trying to build a team around him for the years to come.
Pogba’s Stellar Record For The Red Devils Despite Lacklustre Season
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner had to endure a frustrating campaign at Old Trafford after he failed to lead the Mancunian outfit to a top 4 finish in the Premier League last season. The 26-year-old still managed to put in numerous match-winning displays for the English giants in the last term.
The Frenchman scored 16 goals and grabbed 11 assists in 47 appearances for Solskjaer’s team on all fronts in the previous campaign. Pogba has also represented France in 67 international matches and has registered ten goals for his country so far.
What Are The French Superstar’s Strengths And Weaknesses?
Pogba is a powerful runner with the ball as he has incredible strength which helps him shield the ball and dribble at top speed in the opposition half. He can pick out a final pass when given time and space at the centre of the park. However, what makes the Frenchman such an extraordinary talent is his ability to score or assist goals consistently from midfield at the highest level.
Offering Pogba A New Contract: Wise Move By The Red Devils?
Retaining a player of Pogba’s ilk will undoubtedly be a massive coup for the Red Devils as they try to bounce back and have a successful year next season. There is no denying that it is a clever move by Man United to try and tie up Pogba on a new, long-term contract.
However, even lucrative terms might not be enough to keep the Frenchman happy at Old Trafford. He is in dire need of adding more silverware to his trophy cabinet over the next few years. Hence, a change of scenery could still be on the cards for Pogba as he prepares to make one of the most important decisions of his playing career this summer.
