According to a recent report by ESPN, Manchester United are not in the race to secure the services of Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale this summer despite Zinedine Zidane’s eagerness to cash in on his prized asset. In a recent interview (via ESPN), the Galacticos boss shed some light on Bale’s situation at the Spanish capital and said,
“Bale did not play because he is very close to leaving.
“We hope he leaves soon. It would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.
“I have nothing personal against him, but there comes a time where things are done because they must be done, I have to make decisions. We have to change.
“The exit is the coach’s decision, and also of the player, who knows the situation.
“The situation will change, I do not know if in 24 or 48 hours, but it will, and it’s a good thing for everyone.”
Bale’s Lack Of Form For Los Blancos Last Season
Bale had to experience an unforgiving season at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the previous campaign. He struggled to live up to the high expectation of Real Madrid fans following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo who signed for Juventus last summer. Most people associated with the club were expecting the Welsh speedster to step up to the plate in the absence of the Portuguese superstar. However, Bale could only manage to register 14 goals and create six assists in 42 matches for the Galacticos in the last term.
The 30-year-old has a wealth of experience at the international level after representing Wales in 77 matches while netting 31 times for his country in the process. Maybe, a move away from the La Liga would be a welcome change for Bale as he attempts to reignite his career in European football.
The Cardiff-born dribbler still has a few years left in his tank to perform at an elite level, and so the Red Devils could have benefited from acquiring him in this off-season.
What Will The Welsh International Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Bale is still one of the fastest players in European football and can make some penetrative dribbles out in the wide areas. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur prospect is also a significant goal-threat from long range and tends to create some decent openings for his teammates in the attacking third of the field.
Not Opting To Sign Bale: Massive Letdown For The Red Devils?
Missing out on Bale this summer will a huge disappointment for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Welshman is precisely the type of player who could have helped the Mancunian outfit nail down a top 4 berth in the Premier League next season.
The Red Devils need a few more world-class talents in their squad so that they can compete with Liverpool and Manchester City in the English top-flight. Hence, not recruiting Bale could come back to haunt them in the years to come.
